My dad is moving in with me in a few months. I have not had small children in my house for over 15 years! What changes should I consider to my house to make it safer for my dad, who is 85 years old? I am very concerned about him falling and getting hurt.

There are a lot of fall prevention modifications you can do around the house, such as:
    • Remove any area rugs that he could slip on or trip over – if you buy one make sure it has a non-slip backing on it.
    • Install hand rails for all stairs inside and outside of the house
    • Make sure all rooms are well lit with light switches he can easily turn on and off
    • For the bathroom, grab bars for the shower or a shower chair, and toilet grab bars and safety handrails
    • For the bedroom, bed grab bars and handrails

Most of these things can be bought at a store such as Home Depot a Medical Supply store, or online at Amazon.com.
