We’ve done enough searching and vetting of assisted living facilities, but now it is a question of cost. How are we going to pay? We are not poor, but we are hardly Donald Trump-rich.

99.5{d0e74b8a3596e4326b45924d39792f257a1f9983beed4201831d386befd3d18e} of the time it is private pay. That means a check.

On top of the basic services costs, you might also want to find out just how much the extra services are going to cost, such as laundry, money management, shopping, making the bed. Those services and associate fees are usually detailed in the residency contract. And watch out especially for language on how the extras are charged, whether a flat all-inclusive monthly fee, tiered pricing, or based on individual service per request by the resident.

Furthermore, there will be increases in charges over time because of labor and food costs.
