Sundowner’s Syndrome is the name given to a dementia-related condition that causes symptoms of agitation and confusion after sundown, when the sun starts to set. These symptoms appear in people who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia. About 1 of 5 people with dementia or Alzheimer’s gets Sundowner’s symptoms. Some people exhibit symptoms of dementia all day which grow worse in the late afternoon and evening, while others may exhibit no symptoms at all until the sun goes down.
